@BLMChi @BLMChiYouth @studyabolition @IllinoisPrison @endmoneybond We're calling on #IL reps and senators, Gov P and Lt Gov S to #EndILPrisonLockdown
There are people in IDOC who have not been allowed outside nor allowed commissary for months. It's time to end this.
The Illinois house has just voted in support of the Pretrial Fairness Act! Our bill to #EndMoneyBail is being sent to @GovPritzker’s desk!
This is only possible because of the incredible amount of work communities across the state have done to make this dream a reality.

Still feeling so glad! Never forget to pause to celebrate! There is always more work to do. Stop to savor, to dance, to tell the story, and then keep on keeping on!
In Jan of 2020, we welcomed the IL Network for Pretrial Justice to BN to continue the work towards ending money bond in IL. After years of advocacy @endmoneybond and thousands of organizers across the state came together to end cash bail with HB 3653 SFA2. This is historic!
"Cash bail systems create a coercive process for the pretrial system...you dangle someone’s freedom over their head based on what they will cop to, obviously you’re going to have a lot more cases plea out" @Rev_elate (@endmoneybond) told @inthesetimesmag:
And so many others across Illinois who’ve been organizing for years!
Congratulations on passing the Pretrial Fairness Act! Let’s work together to #EndCashBail!
After years of advocacy by @EndMoneyBond and thousands of organizers across the state, Illinois just became the first state to #EndMoneyBail!
This is a HUGE WIN for everyone in Illinois. Tune in to a press conference today at 3 PM (CST) for more info:
Cash bail is abolished in Illinois. This means the only people who'll be in jail pre-trial are those who a judge decides are a true danger to others. We'll see if this will lower the bar for what's considered "dangerous" or actually restore presumption of innocence to more folks.
.@endmoneybond has been very clear our goal was to reduce jailing. The bill passed actually raises & clarifies the standard for detention decisions & includes many other protections for accused people. Ending money bond & locking more people up is a real fear, but not here.
Today's victory to end cash bail in Illinois is a TREMENDOUS victory and an incredibly long time coming. It has been an honor to document @endmoneybond's work for three years at @SouthSideWeekly. Check out our coverage to learn how the fight was won:
Working with the Coalition @endmoneybond has been the highlight of my career. To work with all of these incredible people to make our work a little bit more safe & just is amazing. Alot more work to do. Passing the bill is only half the fight but WE DID IT. ALL OF US. TOGETHER.
I am so proud we were able to pass the criminal justice reform omnibus bill in the House. This bill is monumental and I cannot say thank you enough to the countless organizers and organizations who've, over several years of hard work, helped us get to this moment.
Thank you, @RepSlaughter, for your principled and steadfast leadership in the house! This will be transformative for all Illinoisans, but especially the Black communities most targeted by criminalization.
